At Lakes Lodge Okataina there are an abundance of fun activities to keep friends, family and colleagues entertained during your stay at our Rotorua accommodation. For the adventurous guest we offer team building activities such as a mechanical bucking bull, archery, axe or knife throwing, aerobics, electronic clay bird shooting, lasersport, pistol shooting and the exciting Man Hunt! A waka race is also a great way to challenge yourself and your friends, building team spirit. Venture out into the mist and experience what it may have felt like hundreds of years ago when Maori inhabited this beautiful area. Read about the rich history or the area here. Kayaking around the lake is also a great option.
For relaxation take a calming bush walk to see the Giant Rata "The Phantom" of the forest or spend time orienteering and listen out for the calls of native birds. A glow worm walk is also a great way to get close to nature. Koura (freshwater crayfish) hunting at night with spotlights and nets is a great actviity for the kids (by arrangement). You'll learn how to cook, catch and eat the koura.

Rotorua is famous for its geothermal activity, with bubbling mud pools and hot springs dotting the steaming landscape. There are a number of thermal parks to explore here, with many also including an insight into the rich Maori culture of the area, with Hangi and Maori concerts.

For thermal pampering, the Polynesia Spa offers a number of thermally heated pools for you to relax in, with massage and beauty treatments on offer. The local thermal hot pools are also a great way to relax on a cool evening. Ask at reception for directions!
Adventure begins at New Zealand Rivejet. Only the New Zealand Riverjet Thermal Safari incorporates a fantastic geothermal wonderland and a thrilling jet boating experience. All this and more is packed into an absolute Must See Must Do 2 ½ to 3 hour trip. The black jet boat takes you through the magnificent Tutukau Gorge on the 2 ½ to 3 hours Riverjet Thermal Safari. You’ll have plenty of time to relax and take in the spectacular scenery of the Waikato River, to learn about the Maori culture of this beautiful volcanic area and to hear the fascinating tales of times gone by.
Just when you thought you had an easy day ahead, your driver will ask you to disembark the boat in knee deep warm water. You will head towards a narrow gap in the cliff face ahead of you and start the challenge of The Squeeze (pictured above). After manoeuvring your way through narrow crevasses, climbing boulders, and wading through warm waist deep water you emerge in stunning native New Zealand bush.
The Rotorua area is famous for its geothermal attractions and one of the best is to be seen while boating with Riverjet.
